Our Story
Journe To was created as an act of love for the community, born from a simple but powerful
belief: that everyone deserves dignity, care, and the opportunity to transform their lives.
Founded by Alicia Carter, MSW, a dedicated community advocate with extensive background in serving the community. Alicia has a passion and a heart for helping and serving all people in need. The lessons instilled in her at a very early age in life to always be kind and to not judge people based on their circumstances and situations continue to guide her work today.
Alicia received her Master's in Social Work from the University of Maryland Baltimore, and Bachelor's in social work from Bowie State University. Working in the Social Work field for over 10 years, she has experience working in the arena of mental health/psychiatric care, child welfare, domestic violence, at risk teens, child abuse and neglect, drug/alcohol abuse, drug exposed newborns, and social work policy.
Alicia has also worked with the American Red Cross as a first responder during natural disasters throughout the country, helping those who experienced tornadoes, fires, or hurricanes by providing food and shelter for impacted families. She has been a voice of reason through her peer and support groups, creating spaces where individuals feel heard and respected.
Her diverse wellness background includes Thai massage, meditation, yoga, sound healing, reiki and reflexology which shines light on our holistic approach to care. This expertise, combined with her extensive social work experience and disaster relief work, gives her a unique understanding of both immediate crisis needs and long-term healing.
Alicia saw firsthand the gaps in services for those experiencing homelessness and felt called to act—not just to provide temporary relief, but to create pathways to lasting change and dignity. Journe To is her way of giving back to the community she loves, addressing critical needs she witnessed daily in her professional work.
Our mobile bus unit travels throughout Baltimore City, bringing critical services directly to our unhoused neighbors who often face barriers accessing traditional facilities. What makes Journe To different is our comprehensive approach, we don't just address immediate physical needs, but offer support for the whole person.
When our bus arrives, it brings more than hot showers, meals, and clean clothes, it brings a moment of respite and human connection. Our team creates a safe space where individuals can receive wound care from our nurse, connect with addiction resources, undergo health screenings, and access assistance programs like SNAP benefits.
We understand that true wellness encompasses body, mind, and spirit. That's why we offer haircuts that help restore confidence, movement and breathwork sessions that reduce stress, and non-denominational spiritual care that nurtures hope. Our food pantry ensures that no one leaves hungry.
Every service we provide is delivered with respect and the understanding that homelessness is a situation, not an identity. We're not just serving the homeless, we're walking alongside fellow Baltimoreans who deserve the chance to write the next chapter of their story.

Our Goals
More than a moment of care — we’re building pathways to lasting change.
At Journe To, our work goes beyond meeting immediate needs. Our goals reflect a vision for long-term impact — creating a city where every neighbor has access to dignity, healing, and hope. Here’s how we’re making that vision real:
Immediate Relief
Provide consistent, accessible services that meet urgent needs including hot showers, meals, medical care, and clean clothing.
Pathway Support
Connect to addiction recovery resources, healthcare services and government benefits they qualify for but might struggle to access.
Community Health
Improve community health outcomes by providing regular preventive screenings, health education, and basic medical care to an underserved population, aiming to reduce emergency room visits.
Holistic Wellness
Nurture mental and spiritual wellbeing through regular wellness programming, creating space for healing beyond physical needs and measuring impact through participant feedback and observed stress reduction.
Community Connection
Engaging volunteers and community partners annually, breaking down barriers between housed and unhoused neighbors.
Sustainable Growth
Expand our reach annually while maintaining service quality, adding specialized support based on community feedback, and developing programs that create pathways to stable housing and different future.
Our Team.
Heart-led. Community-driven.
At Journe To, our team is more than staff and volunteers — we are neighbors, advocates, and passionate believers in the power of showing up for one another. Each member of our team brings a unique set of skills, life experiences, and a shared commitment to restoring dignity, building relationships, and creating pathways to healing.
We believe real change happens when compassion meets action — and that’s the heart of every person who serves with Journe To.
